Inkcase Plus brings E Ink display to your Android smartphone
OAXIS Inc. brings battery saving Incase Plus e-ink display to your smartphone just for $79.
A new Kickstarter project from Oaxis has introduced 'InkCase Plus' folio case for your Android smartphone that packs a battery saving always on E Ink display. The InkCase Plus supports Bluetooth technology and allows users to push e-books, notifications, apps, calls data, etc from your phone to your e-ink case.
The InkCase Plus display saves your Android phones battery as while reading notifications on the e-ink display, your main display of the smartphone remains off. The E Ink display packs a 500 mAh battery that is rated to deliver 19 hours of reading or 7 days of stand-by time, according to the company.
OAXIS Inc. had launched E Ink display for the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S II last year. The company introduced a few E Ink display cases for iPhone and select Android devices at the MWC last year. Earlier this year at the MWC 2014, Yota Devices announced a Snapdragon 800-powered a smartphone called Yotaphone, with an HD display on the front and a battery-sipping e-ink display on the back.
Now, the start-up has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the InkCase Plus display which has already seen a great response and blown past its $100k goal within 1 day. InkCase Plus is currently available for Samsung Galaxy S5 but will be made available to any smartphone that manages to get at least 500 votes from the contributors. Backers can book their e-ink display for just $79 with an estimated shipping date of October 2014. The display is expected to retail for $99 later this year.
