Pictures of Xiaomi flagship Mi4 smartphone running Windows 10 have been spotted online. Microsoft has just revealed it will be teaming up with Xiaomi to test Windows 10 on select Mi 4 smartphones.
Microsoft and Xiaomi have not provided any specific details of the Windows 10 software being trialed, but according to reports the software overrides Android, turning the Xiaomi Mi4 into a Windows 10 device complete with Microsoft services. Microsoft aims to impress Android users with its Windows 10 mobile OS that they eventually purchase a Windows powered phone.
According to the company, the partnership with Xiaomi is just for testing Windows 10 and get feedback. Microsoft’s announcement regarding the partnership with Xiaomi: “Through a new program with Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone distributors in the world, a select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users will be invited to help test Windows 10 and contribute to its future release later this year. These power users will have the opportunity to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview – installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft.”
The software giant has announced that its Windows 10 software will be launched over the summer and has also confirmed its next flagship smartphone running Windows 10 will arrive in August / September. Microsoft has also partnered with Lenovo for the release of new Windows Phone handsets in mid-year 2015.
Microsoft is planning to offer custom ROMs for Android devices that would allow these phones to run Windows 10 with native Microsoft apps and Microsoft services.
