Huawei Nova 3 gaming smartphone with GPU Turbo and four cameras unveiled in China, to launch in India by July end
The Huawei Nova 3 is a gaming-centric smartphone which comes with the company's proprietary GPU Turbo technology to boost gaming performance. The phone also has two dual-camera setups and is powered by the Kirin 970 processor. It will be launched in India by the end of this month.
Huawei will hold the official launch event of the Nova 3 smartphone on July 18, but the company has listed the device for pre-order on VMall, the online store from where users can buy Huawei and Honor smartphones and accessories. The company has not revealed the price of the Nova 3, but has asked customers to deposit an amount of CNY 50 to CNY 100 (Rs 500 – Rs 1,000 approx) to pre-book the device. As per the listing, the Nova 3 will be available in Blue Purple, Bright Black, Light Blue and Primrose Gold colours. The company says that the device will be launched in India by the end of July, but it will most likely be rebranded to something else rather than the Nova 3. This is because the company's previous devices like the Honor 7X and the Honor 9i were rebranded from their original Nova naming, with which they were unveiled in China.
In terms of specs, the Nova 3 features a 6.3-inch LCD Full HD+ display with a 19:9 ratio. The phone is powered by a Kirin 970 chipset with four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz for performance and another four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.8GHz for low-powered tasks. It comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB on-board memory. Only one variant is listed by the company, hence, we cannot confirm whether the company will launch any other RAM or storage variants. In the battery department, the Nova 3 houses a 3,750mAh battery and the device supports Huawei’s Super Charge technology.
For its photography skills, the Nova 3 gets two dual-camera setups. On the front, the company has put two selfie cameras in the notch on both sides of the earpiece. There is a 24MP shooter and 2MP secondary snapper for Portrait photos on the front. The rear panel has a 16MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 24MP monochrome sensor. The fingerprint scanner is located at the rear panel.
In terms of software, the Huawei Nova 3 runs on EMUI 8.2 atop Android Oreo 8.1 OS. It looks like Huawei is targetting mobile gamers with the Nova 3 as phone incorporates the company's proprietary GPU Turbo technology which claims to boost performance significantly. "This latest technology will allow users to enjoy 4D gaming experience with the help of AI, ensuring real-time image and sound recognition, and intelligent game vibrations. It will boost graphic performance by around 60 percent while reducing the energy consumption by around 30 percent," the company said describing GPU Turbo in a media release.
Further, the Huawei Nova 3 also features 3D Qmoji — the animated characters concept that was first introduced by Apple in the form of Animoji.
