Just a day after launching the iPhone 17e and iPad Air M4, Apple has now launched a new MacBook Air with the latest M5 chipset. Aside from the introduction of the M5 chipset, Apple has also doubled the storage on the base variant and improved wireless connectivity. Furthermore, what’s impressive is that the company has kept the device slim and lightweight, which is one of the key reasons why users love the MacBook Air in the first place. The price of the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 512 GB storage starts at Rs 1,19,900 in India, while the 15-inch M5 MacBook Air with 512 GB storage starts at Rs 1,44,900. The pre-orders will start at 7:45 PM IST on March 4, and the laptop will be available starting March 11.
Apple says the new MacBook Air uses 55% recycled content and comes in sky blue, midnight, starlight and silver colour options.

MacBook Air M5 specs
The all-new MacBook Air M5 features a 13.6-inch or 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with 500 nits of brightness and support for one billion colours. Moreover, it runs on Apple’s M5 chip with a 10-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU. It also includes a Neural Accelerator in each core to improve AI performance. Apple also claims that the AI tasks on the MacBook Air are now up to four times faster when compared to the last generation, the M4 model, and much faster than the M1 version.
Alongside that, the laptop packs a 12MP Center Stage camera for video calls, a three-mic setup and speakers with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support. In terms of RAM and storage, the new one now boasts 16 GB unified memory as standard, paired with 512 GB of SSD storage, which is twice that of the last-gen model. Furthermore, it can be configured up to 4 TB. According to Apple, the new SSD offers up to two times faster read and write speeds. The Apple M5 MacBook Air also boasts up to 32 GB of unified memory, and the company says that the bandwidth has also improved to 153 GB per second for smoother multitasking.

In terms of battery, the company claims that the device can run up to 18 hours on a single charge. Out of the box, the MacBook Air M5 runs on macOS Sonoma with Apple Intelligence features such as Live Translation in Messages and smarter Shortcuts.
The laptop supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple’s new N1 wireless chip. There are two Thunderbolt 4 ports and MagSafe charging support. Users can connect up to two external displays.
