Nokia's Camera 9.0 update brings support for Google Lens, ease of switching between aspect ratios and more

HMD global has announced that Camera 9.0 is available for the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6.1 users. With the update, users will be able to easily switch between aspect ratios and shooting functions, as well as adjust parameters within different camera modes, such as the intensity of effects like Bokeh and Beautify. Google Lens has also been integrated into the viewfinder of the phones. For those that aren’t aware, Google Lens can be used to bring up information about visuals captured through the camera lens in real time. It can also be used to find matching fashion and lifestyle items online by scanning them with the camera, or to copy text from an image. For example, if you click the image of a famous landmark, then Google Lens will give you key information about that location. The update also supports Google Motion, enabling users to capture short videos which can be shared directly to messaging services and social media as a GIF.

For those that aren’t aware, Nokia recently launched the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus in the Indian market. Both smartphones are Android One devices, which means that they will get timely OS and security updates from Google. The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes in a 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage variant. It is priced at Rs 15,999 and customers will be able to buy it from both Flipkart and the Nokia online shop. The Nokia 5.1 Plus packs 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. The company has announced that the device’s official pricing will be revealed in September, when it will become available in India. Alongside the new phones, HMD Global also announced that Android 9 Pie will be rolling out to eligible Nokia devices, starting with the Nokia 7 Plus in early September. 

Speaking of the specifications of the new Nokai phones, the Nokia 6.1 Plus (globally called the Nokia X6) sports a 5.8-inch Full HD+ notched display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The display is protected with Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, it has the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The dual-SIM device is backed by a 3060mAh battery that also supports Quick Charge 3.0. At the back the smartphone houses a 16MP + 5MP dual-rear camera setup with Zeiss lenses and on the front, it sports a 16MP sensor. Both the cameras feature a f/2.0 aperture and support shooting in Bothie mode.

The Nokia 5.1 on the other hand is powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC. It has a 5.86-inch HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and an 84 percent screen-to-body ratio. The smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The dual-SIM smartphone packs a 3060mAh battery. In terms of optics, the Nokia 5.1 Plus sports a 13MP + 5MP dual-rear camera setup with a f/2.0 aperture. On the front, it features an 8MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 80.4-degree angle of view.
