Google reportedly working on a $100 Nexus smartphone

Google is said to be working with Taiwanese SoC maker MediaTek to make a chip for its next Nexus budget smartphone.

Some reports have claimed to have found out that Google is working on its next Nexus smartphone which will be even more affordable than its predecessors. The next Nexus smartphone will be a budget $100 device. No other specs or details about the device have been leaked yet.

According to reports, Google is working with Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek to make a chip for its next Nexus budget smartphone. It is yet to known as to who will manufacture the upcoming affordable Nexus device.

Speculation is that Google is also working on an 8.9-inch Nexus tablet that will be launched this year. Reportedly HTC is working on the Nexus 8.9 tablet. Rumors suggest that the tablet will be a high performance device and will come at a higher price tag than the previous Nexus tablets. Rumors also suggest that Google will be launching the Android 4.5 Lollypop at the Google I/O conference in June this year along with the Nexus 8.9-inch tablet.

Google is also planning to launch its next flagship Nexus 6 smartphone by year end. Google’s Sundar Pichai stated at the MCW, the Nexus 6 will not be launched in the first half of this year, without stating any more details about the smartphone. Reports also suggest that LG is working on the Nexus 6 smartphone.

According to rumors, Google is planning to kill its Nexus brand next year and is planning to replace them with Google Play Edition-like new family of handsets running on a pure version of Android.
