Nexus 6P users are reporting random battery failure after Android 7.0 Nougat update

Some Google Nexus 6P users are reporting random battery failure after updating their devices to Android 7.0 Nougat. Google or Huawei have not acknowledged the issue but the issue seems to be software triggered.

According to a Reddit thread started by YouTuber, TheRedyTedy, the issue seems to be intermittently affecting several Nexus 6P users. The user also posted a video, which shows a Nexus 6P with 53 per cent battery level. The smartphone shuts down after clicking just three pictures. It was also shown that the device can only be restarted by plugging the power cable in.

As per the video, The RedyTedy's Nexus 6P here is running Android 7.0 Nougat with October security patch. Some users commented on the Reddit thread describing random shutdown on their device,  and others noted that the issue got resolved after rebooting the device. Some also noted the battery drain at various percentages.

Google's Nexus range has always been one of the first to receive latest Android update but the updates have not always been the most stable ones. The LG-made Google Nexus 5X users also reported issues of random reboots post Android 7.0 Nougat update, while the update for Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE were delayed. Google is yet to acknowledge the issue, although we do expect a fix soon.
