The port is available for the LG G6, LG V20, LG V30, and the LG V35 ThinQ smartphones. Reportedly, the Google Camera app runs on the LG G7 ThinQ and the LG V40 ThinQ.
Google Camera 6.1 brought swipe gestures to navigate the UI as well as a new mode called Night Sight. This mode uses software to light up images that are clicked in extremely low light conditions. Since the launch of the Pixel 3 devices, a lot of smartphones have received the Google Camera with Night Sight port and now a new one is available for selected models of the LG G-series and V-series of devices.
As per XDA Developers, users of LG G6, LG V20, LG V30, and the LG V35 ThinQ smartphones can now get their hands on this technology. They say that LG makes fairly good cameras and the Night Sight feature included in this port makes the cameras on these supported phones “even better”. The folks at the XDA Developers say that this Google Camera port “technically” works on the LG G7 ThinQ and the LG V40 ThinQ as well, “but as of right now things are a bit unstable.”
While XDA has made the ports available to a number of brands, Google officially announced the feature-laden app for all the Pixel devices. The company mentioned that the experience of using the Night Sight mode on the older generation of Pixel phones – the Pixel 2 and the original Pixel – will not be as good as the newly-launched Pixel 3 because some of the features that complement Night Sight are trained for the Pixel 3 phones.
What is Night Sight?
In layman’s terms Google’s Night Sight uses machine learning to produce well-lit images that are taken in low-light conditions. Technically, the mode is capable of creating perfectly lit photos out of landscapes completely dark. This is done using a combination of burst mode photography but there are a few drawbacks. The well-lit photos are not as sharp as you want them to be, and also, the any movement like a shake in the hand and object movement could completely kill the image.
