Gionee Elife E8 to feature 23MP camera, can capture 100MP pictures: Reports

Expected specifications of the Gionee Elife E8 include a 4.6 inch display with 639 ppi, 23 MP rear camera and Android 5.0.

The Gionee Elife E8 smartphone has been certified by Chinese regulatory authority TENAA. The highlight of the device is the 23 MP rear camera that can capture 100 MP images.

Gionee’s Elife E8 is the successor of Elife E7 which was launched in 2013. The Elife E8 has a 23 MP primary camera with Omnivision OV23850 PureCel-S stacked 1/2.3” CMOS sensor that features phase focusing and real-time HDR capture. The camera can take multiple shots and combines them into a single 100 MP image, similar to the Oppo Find 7 which captured 50MP snaps. According to reports, the Elife E8 will have a 4.6-inch display with 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution and a high pixel density of 639 PPI which is more than Samsung Galaxy S6 557 ppi. The Elife E8 will have the most pixel dense display yet.  

Other specifications revealed of the smartphone include a 2.0 GHz octa-core chipset with 3GB of RAM. It will have 32 GB of onboard storage, an integrated fingerprint scanner for additional security and a powerful 3,520mAh battery. The smartphone weighs 207 grams and has sleek dimensions of 164 x 82.3 x 9.6mm. It will run on Android 5.0 OS out-of-the-box. Since the smartphone has already been certified by TENAA, it is expected to be launched over the next few weeks.

Gionee which has been putting a lot of money into its business in India had announced that it would be setting up an R&D centre in this year. Last month, the company launched the Elife S7 smartphone in India for Rs 24,999. The flagship smartphone has a 5.2 inch 1080p AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass protection against scratches. It has a 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT6752 octa-core processor with 2 GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 16 GB of non expandable internal storage. The Elife S7 has a 13 MP primary camera and an 8 MP front camera. It is backed by a 2750 mAh, which according to company claims runs for two days and has a power saving mode. The smartphone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with Gionee’s custom Amigo UI on top.
