LG Fx0 with Firefox OS and transparent body launched in Japan
LG Fx0 is a transparent phone running Firefox OS. The phone is currently available in Japan.
Firefox and LG have launched a new 'Fx0 smartphone' featuring a transparent shell, a home button decorated with the golden Firefox logo and Firefox OS.
The LG Fx0 was designed by noted Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka, who has previously worked on LG G3’s design. The transparent LG Fx0 shows the internal components of the handset. It has a 4.7-inch display screen and is powered with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor. The smartphone has 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card slots. It is backed by a 2,370mAh of battery and runs Firefox 2.0 OS.
The LG Fx0 will be available only in Gold variant and will be offered exclusively by KDDI in Japan. The smartphone has been priced at 50,000 yen or Rs 26,350 approximately. A limited sale for the device will start on December 25, and the phone will be widely available from January 6 in Japan. However it is unclear whether the Fx0 will be launched in any other markets as well.
Takashi Tanaka, President of KDDI stated at the launch, “We are very pleased to bring the first Firefox OS smartphone, based on Web technology standards, to the Japanese market today. KDDI hopes to build the new era of the Web through Web of Things, enabling everyone to create custom connected Web experiences.”
Mozilla is hoping that the LG Fx0 will give it a significant boost. The Fx0 has been priced at an attractive price point to lure customers, but Firefox still has a long way to go to compete with the market giants like Google's Android and Apple iOS.
