In an open letter to former and current users, CEO John Chen sheds light on the new BlackBerry smartphone, Classic aka Q20
In an open letter addressing former and current users, BlackBerry CEO John Chen has confirmed the much-awaited BlackBerry Classic smartphone, which is expected to launch by end of this year. Chen also shared a link where users can per-register for more BlackBerry Classic Information.
“…It is classic BlackBerry – complete with a top row of navigation keys and a trackpad. It’s the device that has always felt right in your hands and always felt right in your busy day. Of course, we’ve made quite a few enhancements around the edges and on the inside,” says John Chen.
“The screen is bigger and sharper. Our application catalogue is growing. The BlackBerry 10 operating system incorporates all the best productivity and collaboration features on any mobile device, including the BlackBerry Hub and our all-new BlackBerry Blend.”
BlackBerry hasn't disclosed full specifications of the smartphone as yet. But it has already confirmed the Blackberry Classic has ‘Menu’, ‘Back’, ‘Send’ and ‘End’ Buttons and comes with an integrated Trackpad for Blackberry fans. The smartphone runs on the latest Blackberry 10.1 OS. The BlackBerry Classic smartphone (Q20) will feature a 3.5-inch touchscreen, which it says is the largest display yet on a QWERTY BlackBerry smartphone.
Other important features of the smartphone inlcude BlackBerry Hub, 'premium materials' and large battery.
According to reports, the new BlackBerry phone will include dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory expandable via microSD card slot to 128 GB and 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2 MP front camera. Connectivity options include GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Bluetooth, microUSB and WiFi.
Blackberry which has been trying to revive its fortunes, recently launched the Blackberry Passport in India for Rs 49,990. The BlackBerry Passport has a unique square shape design. It has a 4.5-inch display with a 1440 x 1440 pixels resolution. The smartphone runs the latest BlackBerry 10.3 OS. It has a 13MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera. Other features included are a quad-core processor coupled with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB internal storage expandable via microSD slot to 64GB. Read: BlackBerry Passport sold out on Amazon India
John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry stated recently:
