BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 hitting Indian shores soon, with BlackBerry 7 OS

RIM has announced that the first of its two BlackBerry 7 OS phones, the Bold Touch 9900, will be coming to the Indian market soon, as early as the second week of August. The news certainly is interesting, as the “thinnest BlackBerry smartphone yet” has not been launched anywhere else in the world, and we might be seeing a simultaneous release, if not one of the first globally. The phones are also the fastest BlackBerry offerings yet, with 1.2GHz Scorpion processors onboard.

We last saw the BlackBerry 7 OS and the pair of Bold Touch phones (including the identical CDMA-based Bold Touch 9930) back in May, when RIM detailed them. Check out our previous coverage for a more comprehensive look at the platform and devices, to see just what you’ll be getting. Expected pricing for the Bold Touch 9900 is around Rs. 32,500.

In a nutshell, the BlackBerry 7 OS promises many new interface and performance enhancements, including easy swipe-based navigation, a new browser called Liquid Graphics – with a brand new JavaScript compiler and support for the latest HTML5 standards. Also new is an improved Docs To Go with editing support for MSOffice docs and PDF viewing, and the new voice-based Universal Search feature. The biggest change to the platform comes in the form of BlackBerry Balance, connected to the latest BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.3. It is essentially a dual-workspace environment, separating work and personal content, data, contacts, and apps.
