Asus Zenfone 5z recieves 12 new features through newest OTA update
HIGHLIGHTS

Asus has released a new OTA update that brings a host of improvements and 12 new features to the Asus Zenfone 5z

Asus has been working hard to make a mark with its smartphone business in India. After launching the Zenfone Max Pro M1 (Review) and the Asus Zenfone 5z, many wondered if these were the company’s one-hit-wonders. Despite mostly positive reviews, concerns of whether Asus will be able to stick to a timely update manner has been called into question. Asus is putting their money where their mouth is and since the launch of the Asus Zenfone 5Z, the phone has received a third major update that brings plenty of new features to the phone along with some bug and performance fixes.

The new FOTA update brings 12 new features to the Asus Zenfone 5z. The new features are listed below.

  • Lift to Face unlock
  • Gesture Controls incorporated
  • 10 New Camera Functionalities
    • Live Filters enabled in the camera
    • Enable RAW file support
    • Enable Panorama feature
    • Support Auto anti-flicker feature (Phone will auto detect electricity frequency based on lighting condition and switch the frequency setting between 50 Hz and 60 Hz to prevent flickering)
    • Add on/off button for EIS
    • Enable flash in Pro mode
    • Support EIS feature in FHD@60FPS & 18:9@30FPS
    • Support EIS/OIS auto switch feature during video recording (The Camera will switch to either OIS or EIS to take super smooth videos depending on conditions)
    • Support over heat detection in video recording mode (Mainly useful while recording)
    • Support 3 Dimensional Noise Reduction feature also in PRO mode

Along with the new features, there are 4 improvements to the camera as well.

  • HDR Functionality improvements
  • Improve Manual White Balance function in PRO mode
  • Selfie Camera improvements
  • Boost audio quality in video to 192kbps bitrate

The Asus Zenfone 5Z performed rather well in our review, where we found it going toe-to-toe with the OnePlus 6 in terms of both performance and imaging, exceeding it only in terms of value for money. It is nice to see Asus improve the camera and smartphone experience so quickly, but the real test of their capabilities will be how quickly they are able to roll out Android P based ROM for the Zenfone 5Z and the Zenfone Max M1 Pro.
