Asus launched the ZenFone 2 with a 5.5 inch display at CES 2015. Now, new images have surfaced online showcasing a 5-inch variant of the Asus ZenFone 2 alongside the original ZenFone 2.

The purported images showcase the new 5-inch variant that looks identical to the Asus Zenfone 2, except for a smaller overall size. According to reports, the new Asus Zenfone 2 model will have a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. It will be powered by an Intel Atom Z3560 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone will feature 4G LTE connectivity and run on Android 5.0 Lollipop with ZenUI on top. The images also show that the new device will feature a single LED flash located beside the lens, while the 5.5 inch model had a dual LED flash system located above the camera lens.

The original Asus ZenFone 2, which was unveiled at the CES 2015, comes with either Intel Atom Z3580/Z3560 processors with 4GB or 2GB of RAM. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch full-HD IPS display, 16GB/ 32GB/ 64GB inbuilt storage options expandable via microSD card up to 64GB. The Zenfone 2 has a 13 MP rear camera with f/2.0-aperture and a 5 MP front camera. It is backed by a 3000mAh battery.

Last week, new reports had remerged suggesting that Asus is coming out with less expensive Asus ZenFone 2 variants powered by chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek. The new Qualcomm chipset-based Asus ZenFone 2 smartphone is expected to arrive in Q2 2015, and a MediaTek-powered 3G variant for emerging markets like India is also in the pipeline.
