Apple, Yahoo looking for deeper partnership: WSJ
Apple and Yahoo are said to be in talks, which focus on having more of the Internet company's news content on Apple's mobile devices.
Apple and Yahoo are reportedly in talks to have deeper partnership for various services. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Yahoo is looking to add more services to iOS as well as integration with Yahoo News. The report further adds Yahoo is particularly eyeing Apple’s voice-assistance Siri.
Details of the reported deal between the companies are pretty scarce at this stage, but it looks to be Yahoo’s one of the newest strategies to tap the mobile segment, and intensify competition with Google at all possible fronts.
That being said, Apple is already offering Yahoo Weather and Finance data preloaded on the iPhone. The partnership is likely to be a great boost to Yahoo, which is also targeting Windows Phone 8.
Yahoo’s new CEO Marissa Mayer recently revealed Yahoo sees more than 200 million monthly active users through mobile devices. The company would definitely want to grow those numbers.
Even as Apple seems to be moving away from Google, it’s highly unlikely the company will use Yahoo as search replacement for Google. It’s notable Yahoo search results are powered by Microsoft’s Bing, owing to a 10-year deal put in place in 2009. With Microsoft being direct rival of Apple, we shouldn’t expect the company to have greater bondings with Yahoo.
