HIGHLIGHTS

A new update for Android KitKat is on its way (Kitkat 4.4.1) and will be improving camera performance on the Nexus 5, Google finally seems to be getting serious about Nexus 5 camera performance.

Google had announced Android KitKat, its latest addition to the Android family, a couple of months back along with the Nexus 5 and we recently saw that Android 4.4 is already running on 1.1% of the total number of active Android devices since its launch. While it’s only been a month or so since the Android 4.4 seeding has begun, reports are coming in that David Burke who is Google’s Director of Engineering for Android has confirmed that Android 4.4.1 KitKat update is already on its way and will be bringing some improvements for the camera on the Nexus 5.

Burke said in an interview that the developers have taken about 5 weeks to finish the update and that the camera on the Nexus 5 will now focus faster. There will also be improvements in the exposure and white balance algorithms making pictures have better contrast and brightness levels.

The camera will rely more on faster shutter speeds and less on its Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) which means there will be less of motion blurs and camera shakes. The HDR mode will also see some improvement where a new progress indicator will show you the progress of the photo being processed. Apart from the camera sorcery usual performance improvements are expected as well as a bug-fix to the facial recognition app on the Nexus 5 is confirmed. Recently we saw that Android 4.4 is already running on 1.1% of the total number of active Android devices since its launch.

The upcoming 4.4.1 update should be hitting all the Nexus devices including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 soon.
