HIGHLIGHTS

The new images show Sony's trademark design for the Xperia Z series, with minor changes.

New images have surfaced online of Sony's upcoming flagship Xperia Z4 smartphone, hinting at what the device may look like. The smartphone was expected to be announced at the MWC 2015, along with the HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6 but no details of the Sony Xperia Z4 were revealed. Instead, Sony just unveiled the Xperia Z4 tablet and M4 Aqua smartphone.

The new 3D renderings of the Sony Xperia Z4 show the familiar OmniBalance design found in both the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 smartphones, with some subtle changes. The device has larger front-facing speakers, which are placed at a slightly different position than on the Z3.

Sony has also moved the microUSB port to the bottom of the device. The flap covering the port has also been removed from the device, which could affect the Z4's waterproof and dust-proof rating. The leaked images of the device’s back lack any markings, so they might be incomplete. The source states that the final images of the Z4 might have some more changes.

According to reports, the Z4 measures 146.3 x 71.9 x 7.2 mm and is expected to have a 5.2-inch display, though its not clear whether Sony will use a 1080 x 1920 pixels display, or 1440 x 2560 pixels. Earlier leaked specifications of the device have revealed that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. It will run on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. The Z4 will have a 20.7 MP rear camera with Sony's new IMX230 sensor. The Sony Xperia Z4 should be officially announced and launched sometime this summer. Read: Sony announces Xperia Z4 Tablet & 3 other products at MWC 2015
