Airtel launches its services in Kargil
Airtel has become the first private operator to offer data and voice services in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Separately, Airtel is reportedly going to buy out Alcatel from JV.
Bharti Airtel has introduced its voice and data services in Kargil of Jammu and Kashmir. With the move, Airtel says it has become the first private operator to offer services in all the districts of the state.
Airtel says the company deployed VSAT links and specially designed infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted connectivity in the difficult weather conditions in Kargil.
“District Kargil is known for its inclement weather conditions and remains cut off from the rest of the country for more than 6 months…we are pleased to have the network deployment that will allow the natives and tourists to stay connected,” says Bharti Airtel’s director for network services group Jagbir Singh in a statement.
“At Airtel, it is our constant endeavour to provide superior user experience to our customers by seamlessly connecting them wherever they go. Airtel through its network presence across all 22 districts of J&K will now allow the residents and tourists to stay connected with their friends & family across India,” he added.
Separately, Airtel is reportedly going to buy France-based Alcatel-Lucent, which deals with fixed-line and broadband network. The two companies had previously aligned with a joint venture called Alcatel Lucent Managed Network Service India Ltd. Airtel had 29 percent stake in the venture.
“It will operate independently of Bharti and going forward, will invite other operators to join in with equity participation and bring the management of their broadband and fixed line networks under its fold,” says a statement issued by the company.
