Apple M5 MacBook Pro: Top features and specs
The MacBook Pro M5 marks a huge upgrade for Apple’s Pro lineup. The new M5 silicon brings up to 3.5x faster AI performance and 1.6x faster graphics compared to the previous generation, all while keeping the same sleek and minimal design. The secret lies in the redesigned architecture that now includes a Neural Accelerator in each core, boosting everything from creative apps to AI-powered workflows.
John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, said that M5 represents “the next big leap in AI for the Mac,” and will benefit everyone from students and creators to developers and business users. That’s a bold claim, but one that makes sense when you look at what the M5 chip offers – a 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, and faster unified memory for smooth multitasking and real-time processing.
Whether you’re editing 4K videos, generating images using AI, or running large language models locally, Apple says the M5 will make it all feel faster and more efficient.
Running the show is macOS Tahoe, Apple’s newest operating system. It introduces a cleaner interface, new customisation tools, and deep integration with Apple Intelligence. Features like Live Translation in FaceTime and Messages, smarter automation through Shortcuts, and AI-driven assistance are now built directly into the system.
Battery life is another feature that needs to be highlighted. Apple claims the new MacBook Pro M5 can last up to 24 hours on a single charge – a massive number for a Pro-grade machine. And if you do run low, fast charging support lets you hit 50% in about 30 minutes with a 96W or higher USB-C adapter.
Further, there is a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, offering up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness for crisp, vibrant visuals. There’s also a 12MP Center Stage camera for video calls, a six-speaker setup with Spatial Audio, and a durable aluminium chassis made using 45% recycled materials.
Price, availability, and what’s in the box for India
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 will be available in Space Black and Silver. Prices in India start at ₹1,69,900, with a special discount for students. The laptop has been available for pre-ordering for a week and deliveries begin on October 22.
Another thing that has everyone talking is whether Apple still includes a charger in the box. In several European countries, including the UK, France, and Germany, Apple has officially stopped bundling a power adapter with the M5 MacBook Pro, citing environmental reasons.
But Indian customers can relax. The Indian retail version will continue to include both the 70W USB-C Power Adapter and the MagSafe 3 cable, so you won’t need to spend extra for a charger.
