SurveyAirtel WhatsApp Diwali scam
An Instagram user (@arbajahmad009) recently shared a video warning people about a suspicious WhatsApp message circulating in the name of Airtel. The message reportedly comes from an unknown number and carries the text, “Airtel- Diwali ka Tyohaar.”
It claims that the sender has received Rs 2,000 through a link included in the message. It then encourages the recipient to click on the same link to claim the money. The promise of free cash may tempt users to tap the link without checking whether the offer is genuine.
However, the Instagram user has warned that clicking on the link can put users’ bank accounts at risk.
How to stay safe from scams on WhatsApp?
While festive cash offers may sound attractive, users should be careful before clicking on links received through WhatsApp. Here are some simple steps to avoid falling victim to such scams:
- Avoid opening links sent by unknown numbers, especially when they promise free money, gifts or rewards.
- Always check offers through official channels. If a message claims to be from Airtel or any other brand/ oraganisation, visit the company’s official website or app to check whether the offer is genuine.
- Do not enter your bank account details, card information, UPI PIN, passwords or OTPs on websites opened through suspicious links.
- Do not share unverified offers with friends and family, as this can spread the scam further.
- If you receive such a message, report the sender on WhatsApp and block the number.
Always remember that a message promising free money does not always mean you are getting a genuine reward. Always verify festive offers through official sources before clicking on any link or sharing personal information.
