Vivo launches Vision Discovery Edition Mixed Reality headset to rival Apple Vision Pro
Vivo has entered the mixed reality market with the launch of the Vision Discovery Edition, its first MR headset. Announced during the company’s 30th anniversary event in Dongguan, China, the headset is positioned as a lighter and more wearable alternative to Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest lineup.
Survey
The Vision Discovery Edition weighs 398 grams, which is significantly lighter than most MR headsets that typically hover around 600g. Vivo reduced the weight by using aerospace-grade alloys, custom cooling fans, and a compact antenna system.

The company also tried to reduce the facial strain and marks that usually come from heavier MR headsets. The Vision Discovery Edition features a 16-point weight distribution system that keeps the pressure on the face below 6.6 kPa to spread the weight more evenly, making it feel lighter and more comfortable to wear for extended periods. It also supports four sizes of light seal and eight foam padding options to improve comfort.
The headset has 8K Micro-OLED displays with 3840 x 3552 pixels per eye, covering up to 94% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. It’s been professionally calibrated and achieves DeltaE<2 accuracy, with binocular brightness difference ≤2 nits. Vivo says this produces visuals comparable to professional monitors. Additionally, adjustable diopters allow near-sighted users to set prescriptions without additional lenses.

The Vision Discovery Edition is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, which promises up to 2.5x GPU performance and 8x AI performance improvements over the XR2 Gen 2. Vivo’s Blue Ocean power management system is also included to extend the battery life of the external battery pack.

The headset runs OriginOS Vision, with interaction handled through 1.5° eye-tracking accuracy and full hand-tracking offering 26 degrees of freedom in gesture recognition and a vertical range of 175°. Users can pinch, grab, and resize objects without controllers.

The Vision Discovery Edition is designed to adapt to different parts of daily life. For example, it can be turned into a private cinema with a 120-foot virtual screen, while also enabling spatial photos and panoramic video playback. For sports viewing, you can access interactive overlays, eye-controlled angle switching, and 3D replays that recreate the action from multiple perspectives (supported via Migu TV in China).
For gaming, the headset can map a living room into an MR playground or stream PC and console titles with roughly 40ms latency on a 155-inch virtual screen. On the productivity side, the headset supports floating windows, video calls, and immersive training applications designed to make everyday workflows more flexible in a mixed reality setting.
The Vision Discovery Edition supports full-colour passthrough with 13ms latency, spatial audio and MR/PCVR gaming titles. It will ship with two strap options, one for comfort and one for stability and light-blocking shields with foam padding.
The headset will initially be available for hands-on demonstrations across 12 Vivo experience zones in China starting August 22, though pricing and availability have not yet been disclosed.
Alongside the headset, Vivo also announced an upgrade to its imaging strategy, highlighting its capabilities in mobile photography, video and health imaging. The company reaffirmed its partnership with ZEISS and its focus on integrating AI-driven imaging technologies across devices.
