Specs comparison: Samsung Galaxy Fold vs Huawei Mate X

Foldable smartphones are no longer just a concept on paper. Samsung and Huawei will now become the first two major companies to make their foldable smartphones available to consumers this year.

Alongside the Galaxy S10, S10e and S10+ the Samsung has also launched its first ever foldable phone “Galaxy Fold” during an event in San Francisco that took place last week. Just a few days later, Huawei has also unveiled its foldable smartphone “Mate X” on Sunday. Both the devices will be available in the market for purchase this year. This is not the first time both the companies are coming face-to-face with their respective devices. Last year, when the Huawei has launched its Nova 4 with a punch hole cut out design, right after Samsung has also launched its Galaxy A8s, which carried the same design as the Nova 4. Both smartphones are very expensive. The Galaxy Foldable is the most expensive device by Samsung, which carries a price tag of 1,980$ (Rs 1,40,000 appx). The Huawei Mate X is even costlier than the Galaxy Foldable as it is launched at EUR 2,999 (Rs 1,85,000 appx). So, let’s begin with the comparison to see what these two devices pack under their hood? 

Display

Both the phones might be looking similar to you in terms of design and display but they are quite different somewhere. The Samsung Galaxy Fold features a 4.7-inch cover display that expands to become a 7.3-inch screen. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate X comes with a 6.38-inch cover display that expands to an 8-inch larger screen. The foldable mechanism is different in the Mate X as it folds inwards, while the Samsung Galaxy Foldable phone folds outwards. The Huawei Mate X display is completely bezel-less and the company even claims that it is slimmer than Samsung’s foldable device. 

Processor, RAM & storage 

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, which is paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB internal memory. The phone will come in India with Samsung’s Exynos processor instead of the Qualcomm Chipset. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate X is backed by a Kirin 980 octa-core processor, which is coupled with 8GB RAM and 512GB internal memory, which is expandable via a microSD card. 

Cameras 

The Samsung Foldable smartphone sports a triple camera setup on the back, same as the Galaxy S10. It has a 12MP wide angle lens, a 12MP ultra wide angle lens, and a 16MP telephoto sensor. At the front. The device has a dual 10MP + 8MP front cameras. The 8MP sensor can be used for clicking photos with depth effect. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate X has three cameras on the back consists of a 48MP primary camera, a 16MP secondary sensor, and an 8MP Leica sensor. There is also a TOF 3D camera for capturing depth. 

Price

Both the phones are pretty much expensive as the Samsung Galaxy Fold is launched at 1,980$ that roughly translates into Rs 1,40,000 (appx), while the Huawei Mate X is even more expensive than the Galaxy Fold as it is launched at EUR 2,999 (Rs 1,80,000 appx).
