Scams are growing by the day. Almost every other day I even report a new scam. No one’s safe from this mayhem. Not even those who are sitting at the topmost spots. Everyone is getting scammed, at least there’s an attempt. This time, the target was Nothing CEO Carl Pei. Carl Bhai as we popularly know him, was about to get scammed. Read along to find out what happened.
So a scammer AI generated Pei’s voice. Once that was done. He sent a voice note on WhatsApp asking a team lead to wire some money for an urgent project. We are not sure if the person concerned took it seriously. But the payment was more or less sent forward. But Pei says that thankfully the process they followed caught that something was fishy there.
A scammer AI generated my voice and left WhatsApp messages asking a leader on our team to wire money for an urgent project. Luckily, our payment processes caught this as designed.

Hopefully, sharing this will help other companies avoid similar AI scams!
He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the same. He said, “A scammer AI generated my voice and left WhatsApp messages asking a leader on our team to wire money for an urgent project. Luckily, our payment processes caught this as designed.” He further added, “Hopefully, sharing this will help other companies avoid similar AI scams!”
How to stay safe?
As the AI revolution grows, so are its negative impacts. People are misusing AI to scam others. We must be careful on our own. Follow these steps:
1) If someone asks for money, personally verify if the request is authentic or not.
2) Never ever click on random links.
3) Before making any payments, make sure that you are at the official website.
As I said, scams are getting way more common than we would want them to be. So follow some thumb rules and try to be as safe as you can.
