iOS 26 update may still surprise you with these two unannounced features

HIGHLIGHTS

Live translation via AirPods will allow real-time multilingual conversations directly in your ears.

Public Wi-Fi login syncing will remove the need to sign in on each Apple device individually.

Both features are expected to arrive with iOS 26.1 or 26.2, later in 2025.

iOS 26 update may still surprise you with these two unannounced features

Apple has already released the second developer beta version of the iOS 26 update. The new update introduced a number of new features that will be available on your iPhone later this year. Now, Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter states that iOS 26 will also include some unannounced features. He stated that iOS 26 will include two major upgrades, including live translation via AirPods and public Wi-Fi login syncing across Apple devices, but that they are still in development. Interestingly, Apple did not announce them at WWDC 2025.

These features were already rumoured and were expected to be announced at WWDC. However, Apple did not make an official announcement about the features. Speaking of the reason, Gurman claims Apple is now being more cautious about revealing features that are not yet ready for release.

For those who are unfamiliar, when the live translation feature becomes available, users wearing AirPods will be able to have real-time multilingual conversations with audio translated directly into their ears. While iOS 26 already includes system-wide translation improvements, this hands-free, on-the-go version designed specifically for AirPods could be a game changer for travellers and international meetings.

On the other hand, Wi-Fi syncing would address a long-standing issue in the Apple ecosystem. Currently, logging into a public network, such as those at airports or hotels, requires entering a login page on each device individually. With this new feature, signing in once on one device will automatically grant access to all of your Apple devices, making the entire process much less frustrating.

Gurman added that Apple had learnt from WWDC 2024, where the features that were announced either didn’t ship at all or were delayed. This time, the business refrained from showcasing anything that wasn’t nearly ready for release.

Speaking of the rollout, AirPods translation and Wi-Fi syncing are expected to debut with iOS 26.1 (October) or iOS 26.2 (December).

Meanwhile, iOS 26’s second developer beta has introduced numerous improvements, including subtle UI tweaks (such as a more legible Control Centre blur and a new Reflection ringtone), Safari refinement, and more. The public iOS 26 beta is expected to be released in September, following the launch of the iPhone 17 series.
