From iPhone SE to Macs, Apple discontinued over 25 products this year
The iPhone SE and Plus models were phased out, marking the end of Home buttons, Touch ID, and compact iPhones.
Apple refreshed Macs, iPads, and Apple Watches with newer chips, quietly retiring older generations.
Accessories like Lightning cables and older MagSafe chargers were also discontinued as Apple pushed further into USB-C and newer standards.
It has been a busy year for Apple as it has introduced a variety of new products. Not only that, but the company has also quietly discontinued at least 25 devices and accessories across its iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and audio portfolios in the global markets. Most of the removals are part of the company’s usual refresh cycle, where older models get replaced by the updated versions. But this year, two discontinuations stood out: the complete discontinuation of the iPhone SE lineup and the gradual phase-out of the iPhone Plus models.
SurveyThe third-generation iPhone SE was pulled from sale back in February as the company introduced the iPhone 16e. For the unaware, the iPhone SE lineup was introduced in 2016 as a compact and affordable option inspired by the iPhone 5s. The company also discontinued the Plus-sized iPhones. The iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus were discontinued and the iPhone 16 Plus is also expected to follow the pattern. The Plus models are officially replaced by the ultra-thin Air models.
Several flagship iPhones also exited the lineup following the launch of their successors, including the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, alongside older standard models like the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15.
Coming to the iPad range, Apple has also refreshed the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and entry-level iPad with newer chips but left their designs largely untouched, leading to discontinuation of M4 iPad Pro models, M2 iPad Air and iPad 10 variants.
Apple’s wearables lineup had turnover. The Apple Watch Ultra 2, Series 10, and Watch SE 2 were all discontinued as newer generations replaced them. While the Series lineup received minor upgrades, the Ultra 3 and SE 3 saw more significant improvements.

On the Mac side, Apple retired several machines as it upgraded to newer hardware. Older Mac Studio configurations, M3-based MacBook Air models, and select MacBook Pro variants have been phased out in favour of systems powered by newer M4 and M5 processors.
Apple also discontinued support for several accessories. These included the AirPods Pro 2, older MagSafe chargers, Lightning audio cables, and a 30W USB-C power adapter, reinforcing the company’s push for higher-wattage charging and USB-C throughout its ecosystem.
