Facebook removes app requirement to run promotions on the network
HIGHLIGHTS

Facebook has given a huge boost to businesses on the network as the company abandons the need for third-party apps to run competitions.

Facebook has updated its guidelines on running promotions on the social network. Facebook has now done away with requirement that promotions on the network could only be administered within apps. Now, promotions can be administered on Page Timelines and in apps on the network (not through personal Timelines).

This means Pages can collect entries by asking users post on the Page or comment/like a post. Also, Pages can collect entries by having users message the Page. Facebook has also updated Page Terms to bar Pages from tagging or encouraging people to tag themselves in posts they are not
actually depicted in.

According to Facebook, the change in guidelines will help make it easier for businesses of all sizes to create and administer promotions on the network.

“This capability makes it even easier for smaller businesses to help build awareness for a new product, promote the opening of a new location, sell inventory, or advance other business objectives. Say, for instance, a local pizza parlor wants to give away free pizza for a month to the 100th person to like its post. Now the business can do this right on its page (and increase awareness of the post via promoted posts) without needing to work with a third-party to build an app,” AllFacebook.com quotes a Facebook spokesperson as saying.
