Apple’s plans to launch a foldable iPad could be delayed until 2029 or later due to ongoing development challenges. The company has been working on the device for several years, with a projected price of around $3,000, but engineers are struggling with weight, features, and display technology, according to Bloomberg.

The foldable iPad is expected to have an 18-inch screen developed in partnership with Samsung Display. This display is said to minimise the crease typically seen on foldable screens. When closed, the device is expected to resemble a Mac laptop, and when opened, it would be similar in size to a 13-inch laptop. Developing such a large foldable screen will likely be complex and expensive.

Apple’s foldable iPad is most likely part of a broader effort to bring fresh, innovative products to market. The company recently launched a new slim phone called iPhone Air priced at Rs 1,19,900, and is said to be exploring products like smart glasses and a tabletop robot. The foldable iPad is expected to make a bigger impact than minor updates to the standard iPad lineup.
