Usually, Google rolls out the stable Android update with the new batch of Pixel smartphones in August. However, it is likely to change this year, as reports suggest that the Android 16 update may start rolling out sooner than expected. It could be made available to all users in June. Though, it’s still unclear whether the tech giant will unveil its next Pixel smartphone lineup in June or follow its past trends.
Google showcased Android 16 at its recent I/O 2025, which is set to enhance the users’ experience and device safety. From a personalized Material 3 Expressive redesign with natural, springy animations to dynamic color themes, customizable Quick Settings, and a new Live Updates feature that will help users easily track notifications from select apps, the upcoming update is set to bring a slew of new features.
Android 16 further introduces soft background blurs in the notification shade. It will also improve personalisation with more responsive components and emphasised typography.
Additionally, it will bring advanced safety features, including scam detection, in-call protections, a theft detection lock, a remote lock feature, and more.
Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update and supported devices
Meanwhile, the tech giant has started rolling out the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 for Google Pixel 6, 6a, 6 Pro, 7, 7a, 7 Pro, Fold, Tablet, 8, 8a, 8 Pro, 9, 9a, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold devices. The beta update brings the Material 3 Expressive interface with some design tweaks, including new home screen grid sizes and a redesigned lock screen. According to a 9To5Google report, the update size is around 574MB on the Pixel 9.
