After joining hands with Gemini, Apple uses OpenAI for Creator Studio, leaving the internet puzzled
Apple adopts a dual-AI strategy, using Google Gemini for Apple Intelligence while OpenAI powers Creator Studio features.
Creator Studio highlights Apple’s new flexibility, moving away from a single AI partner approach.
Early development explains OpenAI’s role, as the project began before the Gemini deal, triggering mixed reactions online.
Apple has made two major announcements in the course of just one week, indicating a major shift in how the company approaches artificial intelligence. Apple first announced its partnership with Google, confirming Gemini as the technology that would fuel Apple Intelligence. This move shows that Apple accepts it needs help from outside to fix Siri, which has lagged behind rivals for a long time. After announcing the Google partnership, Apple also introduced Apple Creator Studio, a new set of creative tools meant to compete directly with Adobe Creative Studio. These steps make it clear that Apple is ready to work with different partners when needed. Instead of relying on only one company or doing everything alone, Apple is now focusing on getting better results and improving its products for users.

The Creator Studio launch event followed Apple’s familiar keynote formula, but one detail stood out and quickly caught the attention of industry observers, which was the company’s approach to powering AI features within the new platform.

Despite signing a long-term deal with Google, Apple made it clear during the Creator Studio keynote that it has no intention of relying on a single partner for all of its AI needs. This became even more apparent when tipster AppleLeak shared an image on the social media platform X highlighting that AI features in Keynote within Apple Creator Studio are powered by OpenAI. He further added that ‘Development of Creator Studio seems to predate Apple’s Siri overhaul efforts and Google partnership discussions, which is interesting.’
It's weird how the AI features in Keynote on Apple Creator Studio are powered by OpenAI, despite Apple and Google announcing a partnership for Apple Intelligence to use Google Gemini technology.

It also suggests that Apple is already collaborating with OpenAI, quietly integrating its technology alongside Google’s Gemini instead of committing to one exclusive partner. This decision has split the internet into two sides. One group supports the dual partnership, saying it shows that Apple is flexible and open to change. They think Apple is wisely trying out different options instead of depending on just one partner. Another group is unhappy with the decision and feels that Apple has betrayed its partners by choosing to work with more than one company.

Amid the debate, experts say the timing of the Creator Studio development is important. If the tool was built earlier, it explains why OpenAI is involved instead of Google. Earlier reports also suggest that Apple teams started working on creative features long before the Gemini deal was finalised. Changing direction halfway would have slowed development, something Apple usually tries to avoid.
