Microsoft launches Xbox Cloud gaming in India: How to setup on phone and TV
Xbox Cloud Gaming went live in India yesterday (November 11) and this means that gamers can now play console-quality games without owning a particular hardware. Microsoft’s cloud service now allows gamers to stream and play hundreds of titles directly through their phones, laptops, or TVs, as long as they have a decent internet connection. Think of it as Netflix, but for gaming – instant access, no downloads, no storage worries.
SurveyAnyone who owns Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass can play games depending on the subscription tier (Essential, Premium, or Ultimate). If you want to know how you can start playing games on your smartphone and TV, read on.

Setting up Xbox Cloud Gaming on your smartphone
Getting started on a phone is surprisingly easy, whether you’re using an Android or iPhone. All you need is a stable internet connection (Microsoft recommends at least 10Mbps for smooth streaming), a controller, and an active Game Pass subscription.
- Open a supported browser – Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Safari on iOS.
- Head to xbox.com/play and sign in with your Microsoft account that has an active Game Pass membership.
- Once logged in, add the Xbox Cloud Gaming web app to your home screen for quick access.
- Connect your controller via Bluetooth or USB. Xbox’s own controllers work best, but even a PlayStation DualSense or third-party gamepad will do the trick.
- Choose a title from the Game Pass library, hit Play, and you’re good to go.
Interestingly, Microsoft has also optimised certain games for touchscreen controls, so you don’t always need a controller handy. Games like Fortnite and Minecraft Dungeons let you play directly using on-screen buttons.
Playing on your Smart TV
If you prefer gaming on a big screen, Xbox Cloud Gaming supports several Smart TVs too. Currently, models from Samsung, LG, and Amazon Fire TV Stick devices are compatible. Here’s how you can set it up:
- Download the Xbox app from your TV’s app store.
- Open it and sign in with your Microsoft account linked to Game Pass.
- Pair a Bluetooth controller (Xbox or DualSense) and browse through the cloud library.
- Select a game and start playing instantly, no console required.
The experience depends heavily on your internet connection. A 5GHz Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet setup will give you the most consistent performance, especially when streaming at 1080p or higher.
