Square Enix finally gets a break thanks to Deus Ex 3

Deus Ex 3

In interview with Edge, Eidos studio manager Stephane D’Astous mentioned that pre-rendered cinematic for Deus Ex 3 will be created in Tokyo by Square Enix.

In the same interview, he mentioned “…people in Tokyo are just so glad to work on it; this is the first project for them that is a non-Final Fantasy title”. If this is true that means the guys working with the studio will get a break from Final Fantasy after over 20 years!—probably they would be more relieved than “just so glad”. Also, it did not come as a surprise when he added that “…they even want to work on Thief 4 too”—sounds like jailbreak time.

Perhaps there are equal numbers of people of both sides of the fence when it comes to criticism of cinematic work by Square Enix. There are those who say that Enix is in a class of its own when it comes to computer generated cinematic brilliance; while there are those who dread their trademark lingering and swooping scenes that seem to go nowhere.

There is no confirmation on release date for the game that has been officially in development since June 2007. Looks like we’ll have to wait a while to find out what Square Enix can do when their guys are allowed to step out of the Final Fantasy shell.
