Rocksteady officially announces Batman: Arkham City as the sequel to Arkham Asylum

DC Entertainment, Rocksteady Studios, and Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment have just announced the upcoming sequel to the franchise redefining game, Batman: Arkham Asylum (read our review), named Batman: Arkham City, and featuring the tagline “darkness descends on the streets of Gotham”. Continuing the storyline from the first game, Arkham City will be “set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City”, where a new maximum security prison has been built to accommodate prisoners from Arkham Asylum.

Featuring “a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features”, Batman: Arkham City promises to be exciting fare. The games wallpapers/posters show the presence of Catwoman, who might feature as a co-op player in the game, as well as Two-Face, who’s pictured in a Uncle Sam type poster in the background. The trailer also shows Joker and Harley Quinn, conspiring again.

In case all this sounds incredibly exciting to you, don’t hold your breath waiting for the game, for Batman: Arkham City will release only in Fall 2011, for Windows, Xbox360 and PlayStation3. Check out the game’s homepage here, where you can pre-order the game and register for updates. Do also check out the teaser trailer below:
