New playable character in Resident Evil Requiem

Speculation about Requiem has been messy for months. Conflicting leaks, contradictory store listings and vague developer comments have made it increasingly difficult to tell what is real and what is misdirection. Even though Capcom has remained tight-lipped about the game, rumours keep surfacing.

According to a screenshot shared by Reddit user Hot-Challenge-2755, the GameStop listing for the Resident Evil Requiem Deluxe Edition mentioned bonus cosmetics for Rose alongside outfits for Grace. Since Grace is the only confirmed playable character so far, Rose’s inclusion immediately stood out. The listing has since been edited to remove any mention of her, which has only intensified speculation that GameStop might have revealed something earlier than intended.

Moreover, producer Masato Kumazawa had previously confirmed that returning characters would appear in Requiem, so Rose’s involvement wouldn’t be out of place.

But what about Leon?

While news about Rose Winters being a playable character in the new Resident Evil game will grab eyeballs, let’s not forget a name that has been a fan favourite for years – Leon S Kennedy. And rumours of Leon being a playable character have also been doing rounds for a while.

Now, if Leon is set to be a playable character in RE Requiem, he would be noticeably older than in previous games. A few alleged leaked images showed an older version of him, but Dusk Golem has already dismissed those images as fake. Still, an older Leon is far more plausible from a gameplay perspective than a child protagonist, turning this into a strange narrative puzzle for fans to untangle.

On the other hand, fans on Reddit have also pointed out one major problem with Rose as a playable hero. Based on what we’ve seen of Grace’s story, Rose would be about six or seven years old at that point in the timeline, which makes the idea of her taking part in full survival-horror gameplay seem unlikely. The only logical explanation would be a time jump or a separate playable section set years later.

All eyes on The Game Awards

Right now, both Rose and Leon remain unconfirmed, and the leaks contradict each other just enough to keep the fanbase guessing. Fortunately, the wait for clarity might not be long as Resident Evil Requiem is officially set to appear at The Game Awards on December 11. Whether Capcom is ready to clear the air or simply tease more mystery remains to be seen, but fans will want to keep an eye on the showcase for answers.
