BGMI Lite vs PUBG Mobile Light: Launch timeline, design, servers and more compared

Battle royale fans across the globe and India have something to celebrate as two announcements land almost together. Krafton has revealed PUBG Mobile Lite for the global audience, while BGMI Lite has been confirmed for Indian players via the official account. The upcoming versions will allow gamers with budget phones that struggle to run the full-sized apps to enjoy the game. The company has been tight-lipped about the upcoming versions, but with these lighter apps on the way, the makers are aiming to bring the core battle royale feel to smaller, lighter builds without losing what makes the original games fun. Here’s a simple breakdown of what to expect from both versions before they arrive.

BGMI Lite vs PUBG Mobile Light: Design philosophy

Krafton says PUBG Mobile Lite will not feel like a cut-down version of the original. In an official announcement video, PUBG Mobile producer Rick stated that Lite is not about offering a smaller experience but about keeping the same high-quality standard as the main game while making it lighter and more accessible for players who want to jump into battle faster and save storage on their devices.

BGMI Lite is expected to follow the same thinking, giving Indian players a smoother experience without losing the feel of the original game. Krafton has confirmed that PUBG Mobile Lite’s initial download will be around 1GB on Android and under 2GB on iOS, with no extra mandatory package required before a player’s first match. BGMI has yet to confirm these details for its own Lite version.

BGMI Lite vs PUBG Mobile Light: Relationship to the main game

The standard PUBG Mobile and BGMI apps will remain the primary titles with full content and modes, while PUBG Mobile Lite and BGMI Lite are built for players who want to save space and ease the load on their devices. Krafton has confirmed that PUBG Mobile Lite will stay updated alongside the main game so players on both versions can enjoy new content together, and BGMI Lite is expected to follow the same approach.

Notably, Lite is also designed to be flexible: players can choose which extra modules to download based on how they like to play, rather than being locked into one large install.

BGMI Lite vs PUBG Mobile Light: Accounts and servers

Krafton confirmed via the official PUBG Mobile Lite announcement video, that the Lite version is directly connected to the main game’s account system and not run on separate servers with no carryover, as some early leaks suggested.

Players who already have a PUBG Mobile account can log in with that same account on PUBG Mobile Lite. Owned items, including outfits, carry over between the two versions. Players can also team up with friends who are on standard PUBG Mobile, so squads are not split apart by a’social barrier’ between the two apps. The classic Erangel map, supplies, and core combat in Lite are also designed to match the main game, keeping the battle experience authentic.

Krafton has not made an equivalent official statement for BGMI Lite’s accounts and servers yet. Given that PUBG Mobile Lite and BGMI Lite are expected to mirror each other closely, it’s plausible BGMI Lite will offer similar account continuity with standard BGMI, but until Krafton confirms this directly for the Indian version, it should be treated as an educated guess rather than a fact.

BGMI Lite vs PUBG Mobile Light: Launch timeline

Krafton has not officially announced an exact launch date for PUBG Mobile Lite, but the company has confirmed it is targeting a launch later in 2026. BGMI Lite has similarly been confirmed for release by the end of 2026, though Krafton has stayed quiet on the exact launch date and pre-registration timing for the Indian version.
