Avatar Kinect for Xbox 360 now available for Live subscribers

Microsoft has released Avatar Kinect for the Xbox 360, a feature announced back at CES 2011, which lets Xbox Live subscribers create a personalized 3D avatar that mimics them in a variety of online interactions. An obvious application of the 3D camera Kinect technology, it is hardly the most exciting gaming news of the week, however, we can imagine quite a few interested in the new possibilities.

Most especially, Microsoft’s own PR, who wax lyrical about the new avatars socializing with their friends, being on talk shows or performing in other virtual environments. Microsoft is also quick to point out that “all conversations are kept safe and secure with the built-in Family Settings on your Xbox 360.” Check out the Xbox Kinect Avatar page for more details.

“Avatar Kinect is a new social entertainment experience on Xbox LIVE that sees your Avatar’s movements and expressions mirror your own. Whenever you smile, frown, nod, and speak, your Avatar will do the same. It’s a brilliant way to have more fun on Xbox LIVE with family and friends.”
