YouTube will soon let you generate backgrounds using AI for Shorts: Here’s how

Get ready to ditch the boring backgrounds in your YouTube Shorts! Google-owned YouTube is testing an AI-powered feature that will let you generate backdrops for your Shorts with just a few steps. This will be a game-changer for creators looking to add some extra spice to their short-form content.

Google has updated its YouTube test features and experiments page to announce that the company has started testing a new feature, Dream Screen, that uses AI to generate image green screen backgrounds for Shorts. 

For those who are unaware, the Dream Screen feature was initially announced last year.

If you’re a creator in the Dream Screen experiment group, you can access the feature by following the below steps. 

Step 1: Open the YouTube app.

Step 2: Tap Create (the plus icon). 

Step 3: From the right menu, tap the Green screen option.

Step 4: From the bottom, select the purplish square icon with a little star inside it. Then, create an image or video. 

Step 5: Describe the content you would like to generate.

Step 6: Tap Create preview. 

Step 7: Select and post your video: 

• For images: Choose a generated image and use the image as a green screen background to record over it.
• For video: Use the generated video as a green screen and record yourself along with it.

Step 8: Then you can add details to your video, such as description and the privacy settings.

Step 9: Tap Upload short to publish.

It’s important to note that you can currently only enter text prompts in English. 

In my opinion, the Dream Screen feature will be especially helpful for creators who don’t have access to fancy sets or filming locations.
