YouTube has had the live streaming option for a while, but you needed a separate app to broadcast up until now.
The livestreaming feature, on YouTube, is coming to its Android and iOS apps soon. According to the company, the feature will now be added to the YouTube app on Android and iOS. This will allow users to directly start a live stream from the app, using a big red capture button that will be in the corner of the app. You will then have to choose a thumbnail for the live video, and then start broadcasting to your followers. The company said near real time chat will also be a part of the feature.
The feature is currently available to a few YouTubers, including The Young Turks, AIB, Platica, Polinesia, SacconeJolys and Alex Wassabi at VidCon. The company plans to bring it to more users, soon. “Because it’s built right into the YouTube app, mobile live streaming will have all the features your regular videos have—you’ll be able to search for them, find them through recommendations and playlists and protect them from unauthorized uses. And since it uses YouTube’s peerless infrastructure, it’ll be faster and more reliable than anything else out there,” said the post.
The livestreaming feature has been supported on YouTube for a while now, but users had to use a different app to actually broadcast videos. Competitor Facebook, on the other hand, has built its live feature right into the app. Twitter was the first to launch this feature, though, with Periscope, while Tumblr also announced a live streaming option.
