With the new update, users have the option to change resolution from 144p to 1080p.

Google is set to launch a new update to its YouTube for Android app. The update version 5.7 brings a new and much-needed feature – ability to manually change the resolution of the video you want to stream.

With the new update, users have the option to change resolution from 144p to 1080p. There's also an auto mode. Earlier, YouTube offered HD/HQ (depending on the video) on or off. The latest update is not reflecting in Google's play store changelog, but an APK signed by Google is available.

The new update is likely to boost viewership on YouTube as it will allow users to watch videos on slower networks.

Google recently updated its Hangoust app with features such as unified SMS block list and ability custom notification tones for individual contacts. The update reportedly comes with several bug fixes such as excessive battery drain.
