YouTube debuts new playback controls, You tab, animated subscribe button & more

Google-owned YouTube has announced that it is rolling out new features for better user experience. The new features include a stable volume option, the ability to easily increase the playback speed to 2x, the ability to search by voice, animated subscribe and like buttons, and much more.

New audio and control tools

YouTube is rolling out a new stable volume option on mobile devices. This feature reduces jarring differences in volume, for an overall improved watching and listening experience.

When watching a video either in full screen or portrait mode, you can just press and hold down anywhere on the player to automatically bump the playback speed to 2x. This feature will be available across web, tablets and mobile devices.

To help you find the best moments in videos, YouTube also launched bigger preview thumbnails while you seek. 

YouTube is also rolling out a lock screen option on mobile and tablets. This feature allows you to lock your screen to prevent unwanted or accidental touches.

You tab

YouTube announced that the Library tab and account page have been merged into a new home called You tab. In this tab, you can find your previously watched videos, playlists, downloads and purchases, as well as your account-related settings and channel information.

The new You tab is currently rolling out and can be found where the Library tab used to be on web, mobile and tablets.

Search by voice or song

YouTube also introduced the ability to search by voice or song. With this feature, you will be able to search for a song by playing, singing, or humming. It uses AI to match the sound to the original recording. This feature will roll out in the next few weeks, and will be available on Android devices for now.

Animated like and subscribe buttons

Now, when creators ask viewers to “like” or “subscribe,” a visual cue on those buttons will appear in sync with the video. And once viewers press that button, a subtle explosion of playful sparkles will reward them. 

Also, for new video uploads, YouTube added a new animation that updates view count and like count in real time for the first 24 hours.
