Samsung has partnered with Yahoo NewsOn information panel to bring weather and new updates on Samsungs smart TV.
Yahoo NewsON will bring local news articles, videos and weather reports to Samsung Smart TV users with the click of a remote. The NewsOn Panel is available in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the middle East.
Users will be able to click on the information through the NewsOn information panel and get instant information about current events. The NewsON main screen offers a collage of photos and headlines from Yahoo news stories with a snapshot of current weather conditions for local cities. To access the service users can click on “NewsON” and get a snapshot of the latest headlines. Users can see the summary of the story, read the full article, go to related videos, check the weather reports and get weekly weather forecasts based in the users location and weather based photos from Flickr. According to Yahoo, the NewsON Smart TV app will work even in low bandwidth environments.
The company stated about the “NewsON” panel: “The NewsON panel is a new feature on Samsung Smart TVs that delivers local Yahoo news articles, videos and weather forecasts right on your television screen with the click of a remote”.
Samsung was the first to integrate the Yahoo Widget Engine in 2009 into its TV line. Yahoo and Samsung announced a multi year partnership in November 2012, to integrate Yahoo’s Broadcast Interactivity platform into Samsung 2012 Smart TVs. According to the partnership, Yahoo Broadcast Interactivity, powered by automatic content from SoundPrint, will deliver real time content to Samsung Smart TV’s.
