Besides updating iOS app, it has also enabled the Highlights feature for all the 35+ languages for the Android app.
Within a day of iOS 9 rolling out to millions of devices, Twitter has updated its app that utilises some of the new features that iOS 9 brings to the table. The app has added support for split-screen multitasking and quick reply from notifications.
Apple released the iOS 9 update on Wednesday for iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches. One of the most talked about features that it introduces is split-screen multitasking functionality for iPads. Twitter is one of the first apps to add support for the feature, which will allow you to dock it while working on another app simultaneously. Twitter now also allows you to reply directly from the notification. A text box pops up on pulling down the notification, whereas, tapping on it will open up the Twitter app. As of now, the quick reply only works with mentions and is being rolled out to users gradually. It is similar to how the Apple Messages app work. The split-screen feature is currently supported on the iPad Air 2 and the upcoming iPad Mini and the iPad Pro.
Additionally, Twitter has also announced that the Highlights feature will now cover all the languages that Twitter supports currently. The feature introduced in April this year, provides a summary of the top tweets based on the user’s interests and networks via push notifications. It can be enabled by going into the Settings from the app, selecting the account, and then checking the box for Highlights in the mobile notifications. “When you opt in to receiving Highlights, you will get a notification on your phone up to twice daily letting you know your Highlights are ready. When you open the notification, you’ll go directly into the Twitter app where your Highlights will be displayed in a new interface. View them all by swiping through from right to left. When you’ve reached the last Highlight, another swipe puts you directly into your home timeline,” wrote Tech Lead, Gordon Luk, in a blog post.
The Highlights feature was announced in April and up till now, supported only English. It is currently available only on Android and will be rolling out globally, supporting all 35+ languages. The feature is present in the Android app version 5.55 onwards. It is expected to arrive soon on other platforms.
