Twitter Community Notes feature is a step toward preventing misinformation: How it works
HIGHLIGHTS

Twitter has begun rolling out a new feature known as Community Notes.

The feature will let you contextualise other people’s tweets to prevent misinformation on the app.

Twitter Blue is about to launch soon.

Last Saturday, Twitter announced its Community Notes feature is rolling out globally. This feature has been created to combat misinformation on the app. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Twitter has tried experimenting with such a feature – it was called Birdwatch earlier and made its debut in 2021 (under Jack Dorsey).

Twitter explained its new feature in a recent blog post, saying “ Community Notes aim to create a better informed world by empowering people on Twitter to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading Tweets. Contributors can leave notes on any Tweet and if enough contributors from different points of view rate that note as helpful, the note will be publicly shown on a Tweet.”

Elon Musk has described this feature as “a game-changer for improving accuracy on Twitter.” The billionaire was been fairly vocal about improving the way conversations take place on Twitter, along with ensuring free speech.

When will Twitter Community Notes be available?

The global rollout of this feature has already been set in motion, and it should take a few days for it to be accessible to users all across the world.

Twitter Blue is also making a return. This time, users will have to verify their accounts and identity via their registered phone numbers to prevent any impersonation (which is what happened when Twitter Blue was initially launched).
