HIGHLIGHTS

The latest version of YouTube for Windows Phone 8 app includes a slew of new features that make the most of WP8.

Microsoft on Tuesday rolled out an updated version of its YouTube app for Windows Phone 8 platform. Microsoft says the “completely redesigned” app makes most of Windows Phone 8 features.

Now users can access, videos, channels, playlists and even pin them to Windows Phone 8’s Start screen. The app also supports YouTube accounts enabling users to access their uploads, video lists and playlists.

The WP8 YouTube app update brings a new playlist design that provides users easy access to videos using a touch-friendly filmstrip. Also, users can play the video in the background even when the screen is locked. Moreover, there’s option to share videos via popular social networks, e-mail as well as text.

“And there’s no need to worry about the little ones viewing content you don’t approve of, since you can now pin YouTube to Kid’s Corner and limit content based on YouTube Safety Mode settings you configure,” Microsoft in a blog post.

Microsoft said it’s working on a Windows Phone 7.x version of the app and is likely to be released soon. The update will include support for more languages including Bulgarian, Catalan, Taiwan Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Filipino, Greek and Hindi.
