Microsoft introduces new Music and Video preview apps for Windows 10, sans the Xbox branding.

Microsoft has introduced new music and video apps for its Windows 10 OS. Users can now download the Windows 10 Music and Video apps in preview form the Windows store.

The new Music and Video Preview apps have some minor UI tweaks, like easier access to settings and account options. The Music app allows users to stream music, play local songs and make playlists. Microsoft says that additional features including a dark theme and compact mode will also be coming soon.

The video app allows users to play videos from a local source or stream from a Xbox Video device. Microsoft adds that users will be able to stream movies and TV shows in the new store as well as watching them offline in the future. The software giant warns that the apps may have some bugs, for instance adding or removing folders from a video library can hang the app and playback of some movies and TV may fail occasionally.

Microsoft has finally dropped the Xbox branding from its apps, although Music still taps into the Xbox Music Pass. The Xbox branding is part of the company's simplification processor where it refers to universal apps as just "Windows apps" that run across PCs, tablets, phones, and the Xbox One. Microsoft adds that the Windows 8.1 Music and Video apps from the non-beta Store will run side-by-side with these preview apps and can be used to purchase content.

Yesterday, Microsoft had launched Project Spartan for Windows 10 technical preview. The new browser has a new interface, integration with digital assistant Cortana along with some new features.
