Instagram adds ‘Photos of You’ image tagging feature
HIGHLIGHTS

Now Instagram users can tag friends in their pictures.

Instagram has introduced a new feature called “Photos of You” that brings image tagging capabilities – a feature similar to Facebook’s tagging system. The tagging feature allows you to tag your friends in pictures taken through the service.

“Photos are memories of the people, places and moments that mean the most to us. We have always sought to give you simple and expressive ways to bring the stories behind your photos to life. Your captions and hashtags capture the “what?” and your Photo Map answers the “where?” but until today we’ve never quite been able to answer the “who?,” says Instagram in a post.

Instagram, which was acquired by Facebook last year, says adding tags is as easy as adding hashtags. It further says users can tag people to only their photos, so they have control over the images they share. “And it doesn’t stop at people—you can add any account on Instagram, whether it’s your best friend, favorite coffee shop or even that adorable dog you follow,” adds the post.

Now there will a Photos of You section on your profile. If a friend has added you to a photo, you will receive a notification, and the picture will show in your Photos of You section. You can also customise settings to ensure nothing appears on your profile until you approve it.

There will now be a Photos of You section on your profile. When someone adds you to a photo, you’ll receive a notification and the photo will appear in your Photos of You. Want to make sure you like the photo first? No problem: you can easily adjust your settings so nothing appears on your profile until you approve it.

Instagram for iOS version 3.5 is now available for download in Apple’s App Store, and Instagram for Android version 3.5 on Google Play.
