Google’s Find My Device can now pinpoint your lost phone more precisely in some areas
HIGHLIGHTS

Find My Device can be used to track a lost device is on an indoor map of some of such areas like airports and malls.

Google’s Find My Device app can be a lifesaver for someone who has lost their phone. If a user has the app installed on their phone, they can log into their Google account from any other device to track the lost phone, make it ring even if it's on silent mode or wipe it remotely. However, the location of the lost handset was displayed with relatively less accuracy till now since it was tracked to an area where it was and it might be of not much help when someone loses their phone, say, in a mall. Now, the app has been updated to track a device to a higher degree of accuracy and it can now display where a lost device is on an indoor map of some of such areas like airports and malls.

One might have noticed that Google offers indoor maps for some places like a mall. One can see what stores are inside the mall, along with the floor level they are located at. Now, utilising this feature, Find My Device can find a user’s lost device. It should be noted that while the feature is certainly a helpful one, there’s no guarantee that one will get their device back. In addition to the new feature, the app now supports work profiles as well.

In other Google news, the company has now patented an Augmented and/or Virtual Reality footwear. Going by the patent, these kicks are motorised with a platform and a flex region on the bottom portion of the sole. This region is supposed to help the wearer “walk” infinitely without actually moving far away from their initial spot. The patent states that these shoes could be constructed using normal wheels, tracks, and omnidirectional mecanum wheels. However, to err is human and we are bound to trip or fall when using VR headsets. Google has not detailed how it could mitigate this issue. You can read more about the patent and how it works here
