HIGHLIGHTS

San Francisco-based mobile app builder, Parse, has been bought by Facebook, marking its entry into paid tools and services for developing mobile apps.

Facebook is planning to buy San Francisco based Parse – a startup specializing in boosting mobile apps so as to make the Facebook experience friendlier to smartphones and tablet computers.

Although Facebook did not reveal the details of the deal, online reports suggest that the deal has been valued at $85 million. Facebook posted, “By making Parse a part of the Facebook platform, we want to enable developers to rapidly build apps that span mobile platforms and devices.”

San Francisco-based Parse was founded in 2011. They offer software tools for building apps and monitors activities such as data storage and servers for apps regardless of which mobile devices are involved.

“This removes the need to manage servers and a complex infrastructure, so you can simply focus on building great user experiences,” Facebook said.

Facebook is now primarily focussing on smartphones and tablets which are becoming the preferred gadgets among users.
