The opt in program gives users access to the latest versions and features of the app before the general release.

Facebook has launched a Messenger for Android beta program, which anyone can join. According to Facebook, those who signed up will get a small batch of fixes and new features every month. Facebook asks users to submit a report whenever they encounter any bug or other issue.

“…Because the beta build will have features that are still in progress, the app may be less stable than you’re accustomed to. Feedback on stability, as well as any other performance issues you experience, is important to this program and deeply appreciated,” says Facebook in a post.

Last June, Facebook launched the Android beta testing program, allowing users to opt in access to the latest version of the app before the official release. Facebook says its beta testing program has been successful as the feedback helped Facebook build more stable app on the Android platform.

For Messenger beta program, Facebook says: “Performance and reliability are important aspects of any high quality product. For a messaging product, this is especially true – we want our messages to be delivered to our friends quickly, and reliably. We have learned a lot about improving mobile performance at Facebook, and the Android Beta program is a helpful tool we have at our disposal.”

Facebook has of late been focusing on the mobile platform. It strengthened its position in this segment by taking over popular messaging app WhatsApp. It also shut down Messenger app for Windows giving a clear indication about its increased focus on the mobile segment.
