BlackBerry announces BBM v2.2 update for Android and iOS
BBM v2.2 update brings new emoticons, simplified sign-up and much more.
BlackBerry has rolled out an update to its popular BBM messaging app on Android and iOS platforms. BBM version 2.2 enables is available via the Google Play store, while iOS users get it over the next few days.
The BBM v2.2 release brings new improvements, including easier sign-up process. BlackBerry has removed some unnecessary fields from its sign up process. The new process requires just a name, a valid e-mail id, and a password for log in. Blackberry has also simplified the way users add new BBM contacts via their e-mail. Now users can just click on the email invite to connect, no need for PIN invites any more.
The new “Updates” tab has also been renamed to “Feeds”, which will show new posts, profile updates as well as ‘status’ from BBM contacts. BBM v2.2 also brings 16 new emoticons – “from a hotdog, and maracas, to a hacker and a pair of hot lips”. Apart from this the new update brings the regular bug fixes and performance enhancements.
Blackberry announced in a blog post that BBM for BBOS and BlackBerry 10 smartphones will be launched in a couple of weeks. The release will bring some additional features for BB users, though no details have been given.
Blackberry recently confirmed that it will be releasing two new smartphones later this year, including a Blackberry Classic smartphone and a 4.5-inch high-resolution device. Blackberry also released an SDK for BlackBerry 10.3 beta for developers and invited developers to test new applications.
