Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new app dedicated solely to video games, as it seeks to expand its presence in the gaming industry. The tech giant is expected to preinstall this gaming app on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV set-up box later this year.

According to Bloomberg, the app will be introduced during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, and will officially roll out with the next version of iOS which will most likely arrive in September alongside the new iPhone models.

The new app is expected to work as a central hub for all gaming-related content. Players will likely be able to track in-game achievements, check leaderboards, communicate with other gamers and more—all in one place. The app is also said to feature editorial content from Apple about new games and promote Apple Arcade, the company’s $6.99/month subscription service.

This new app will likely replace Game Center, Apple’s older social network that launched in 2010 but never became very popular. Interestingly, the Mac version of the app might even support games downloaded from outside the App Store.

Even though the iPhone is one of the most popular devices used for gaming worldwide, Apple still struggles to be seen as a major gaming brand. While the upcoming app might improve how people play games on Apple devices, testers of the software believe it probably won’t be enough to fully change public perception, the report mentioned.

Whether this new app will be a game-changer or just another launcher remains to be seen.
